How do I turn off Call Waiting?

We strongly recommend that you disable call waiting. Otherwise, incoming calls could interrupt your modem connection and force you to retake a section of the course.

Windows 95 users

  1. Click the "Start" button
  2. From the Settings menu choose "Control Panel"
  3. Double click on the "Modems" icon
  4. Click the "Dialing Properties" button
  5. Check the "This location has call waiting" box and select the appropriate option (this depends on your telephone service, most frequently *70 is the necessary prefix)
  6. Press the "OK" button to apply the changes and close the dialog boxes
Windows 95 with AOL
  1. After starting AOL click the "Setup" button on the "Welcome" dialog box.
  2. Choose your location and press the "Edit Location" button
  3. Check the "Use the following command for disable call waiting" box and enter command (this depends on your telephone service, most frequently the prefix is *70)
  4. Press the "Save" button to apply the changes
Macintosh users

  2. Type *70, in front of your local access number
